Fresi Sandro - "Elmusura" (CD - association Iskeliu ISK-CD 004, 2010) Simone

“Elmusura” ( bellezza in sardo) è l’ultimo album di Sandro Fresi , compositore, polistrumentista, ricercatore gallurese. Esce a dodici anni dall’esordio “Iskeliu” che, pubblicato sotto l’egida di Fabrizio de Andrè , rappresentò un coraggioso esempio di modificazione genetica del folk.
A quel disco sono seguiti altri album di notevole raffinatezza stilistica e di maggior rigore filologico come “Speridifòli” (2001) e "Zivula" (2003), result of extensive research in local traditions sardines, too often flattened in the reference of the prevailing culture on the form of "singing tenor" of barbaric area.

These eleven new songs, which could once again fall on deaf ears tire boorish indifference barbaric and irrational in this country, are yet another piece of clever reinterpretation of musical roots Mediterranean enriched by the idea of \u200b\u200bentrusting the interpretation of three different female voices of the directory: Rosa Temprano (author's texts), and Shirin Demma Paola Giua , come scrive Paolo Fresu nelle note che accompagnano il CD, “divengono le voci di un viaggio/racconto che è ricco, mai scontato e scevro da sentimentalismi”, narrato con mano ferma attraverso un brillante accompagnamento strumentale, equilibrato, misurato, seppur straripante di suggestioni timbriche dovute alla varietà degli strumenti utilizzati.

Rimandano ad archetipi tradizionali, le composizioni originali di Fresi, anche quando, come nella splendida “Dulcincantu”, si affidano alla ballata dal melos mediterraneo o alla cantata medievale ("Ojos").
In alcuni episodi strumentali, then, one could argue that the author indulges voted to form a compromise with some new age copyright (as in the case of "Idula", which recalls the melodies of caressing monster guitar Michael Hedges ...) but it is a risk run when the harmonious beauty that is closer to the perfect design. Listening to "Matina Latin" as a test to see how much you are willing to be seduced by the crystal clear sound.
"Elmusura" recovers, in retrospect, the traditional Provencal songs ("The change", sung by Paola Giua) and Catalan ("Si em llevar", still Paola Giua), offering melodic textures to the texts of Juan de la Cruz and Teresa de Jesus, Carmelite mystics, and verses from the Sardinian poet Petru Alluttu century.
An impressive body of work that, in short, the result of a syncretism that is poetic maturity, experience, sensitivity, taste rare. Sandro Fresi certainly deserves much more than these words hasty and inaccurate ...
