Non abbiamo ancora dati precisi sul danno ecologico di tipo nucleare del disastro giapponese causato dal maremoto dell’11 marzo 2011, perché ogni centrale nucleare ha anche caratteristiche proprie. Il cemento di canapa e calce è un materiale biocomposito ottenuto dalla combinazione della parte legnosa dello stelo di canapa, conosciuta anche come canapulo, ed un legante a base idrauilca lime with the addition of water. The biocomposites of hemp and lime can be used in the construction of massive masonry like a concrete, both independently and as a fill in a structure of wooden beams and pillars. It can also be used in the form of bricks and plaster as insulator (Woolley, 2006). The mixture is usually thrown into wooden panels that serve as temporary containment and then pressed to ensure a smooth installation. Recently, in order to make the operation more quickly and efficiently from an economic standpoint, some manufacturers have begun to spray the mix by using special equipment.
To fully understand its potential ownership must be clarified. Lime and hemp have already been used by mankind for centuries but only recently are showing very interesting results when combined together in biocomposites. For ten years, scientific research is conducted on an ongoing basis to better understand their behavior and to determine guidelines and best practices so that they can be disseminated within the construction industry.

Further research is currently underway to prove once and for all the thermal advantages of hemp and lime biocomposites compared to standard building materials. Breathability and healthy buildings

Sequestro del carbonio

La canapa assorbe diossido di carbonio (CO2) dall’atmosfera durante la sua crescita. Secondo Pervais (2003), 325Kg di CO2 vengono catturati in una tonnellata di canapa secca. La costruzione a base di canapa e calce è quindi una modalità efficace per contrastare il riscaldamento globale. Lime Technology (2006) affema che vengono sequestrati 110Kg di CO2/m3 nell’edificio quando il biocomposito viene spruzzato, che diventano 165 Kg di CO2/m3 quando viene gettato e pressato all’interno dei pannelli temporanei di contenimento.
Le stime citate già tengono conto della CO2 emessa durante la preparazione della calce. Per questo motivo si può affermare che la costruzione a base di canapa e calce è potenzialmente ad emissioni negative di carbonio. Un’ulteriore demonstration is provided by Woolley and Bevan (2007) when they state that 31kg of CO2 per m2 are kept in a wall thickness of 300mm biocomposites, which become 53Kg/m2 with a thickness of 500mm.
